Landscape Appreciation · Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle · Suburbs of Paris 🏰

🌳『Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte』 🌳The European concept of gardens originates from the Garden of Eden in the Bible: during the Middle Ages, gardens were allegorical and religious enclosed spaces. The French gardens that emerged after the Renaissance brought about a "revolution in courtyard design": a reflection of humanity's desire to tame nature. 🌳Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle is one of the most magnificent works of the great landscape architect, André Le Nôtre. 🌳It is the first grand work of French Baroque gardens, created by Louis XIV's finance minister who invited painter Le Brun and architect Le Vau, in collaboration with Le Nôtre, to complete this "dramatic" design: the castle's lord's ostentatious behavior angered Louis XIV, leading to his arrest and imprisonment, and his life "dramatically" came to an end. 🌳·When we mention French gardens, we always think of the classical geometric shapes. But when you stand at Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle, you will be amazed by the changes in the landscape: 🌳From the balcony, you can take in the unobstructed view of the mirror-like water, playful fountains, hidden groves, vast forests, and the symmetrical planting tapestry that unfolds along the central axis. And at the end of the axis: a huge golden statue of Hercules, quietly watching over the castle from a green hill. This also symbolizes the prestige of the castle's owner. 🌳·Le Nôtre's gardens require you to walk around to fully appreciate them: the large canal forms a right angle with the central axis, which can only be discovered while strolling. In addition, there are fountains that spray water in the shape of arches, echoing the castle's dome. ·French poet La Fontaine once warned in his poem "The Dream of Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle" that the formation of a garden takes time. Therefore, today, if you have the opportunity to step into the castle, why not appreciate the sediment of time in this garden? #LandscapeArchitecture #ArchitecturalLandscapePhotography #LandscapeCaseStudy #Paris #ParisLife #ParisWeekend #Architecture #Film
