Las Vegas | Dominique Ansel — The Cronut Pioneer 🥐✨
The Vegas outpost of NYC’s famous French pastry shop Dominique Ansel. I stayed at Caesars Palace, so for four days straight I went and tried something new each time! 🥐 Cronut – Founder Dominique Ansel invented the croissant-doughnut hybrid. Honestly, this is the best item in the shop! Each month has a special flavor — March was lime custard. The shell has the chew of a donut and the flakiness of a croissant, with tangy lime filling balancing the sweetness perfectly. So good — the only thing I bought more than once in four days! 🥐 DKA – Short for “Dominique’s Kouign Amann.” This one even has its own name and is touted as the best seller. Super crispy outside, soft and beautifully layered inside, with a caramelized sugar crust — a straightforward, indulgent treat of sugar, butter, and carbs. 🥐 Almond Croissant – The heaviest, densest almond croissant I’ve ever had — almost cookie-like. Even after a day, the crust stayed crispy. Loaded with almonds and generous filling, not too sweet — delicious, but at $9.99 (double most bakeries), worthiness depends on you. 🥐 Cannelé De Bordeaux – Crisp outside, soft and custardy inside — nicely done. 🥐 Desserts – Tried the Chocolate Raspberry Soufflé and Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot (filled with vanilla milk). Not recommending either — overly sweet, more about looks and gimmicks (the cookie shot is made by a robotic arm 🦾). Heard other cakes have the same issue. Overall, their viennoiserie (pastries) far outshine the fancy desserts. Heard the NYC location always has long lines — Vegas branch was pleasantly uncrowded.
