Life hot pot! Goose intestine, bullfrog, eel, taro!!
Who knows the joy of eating freshly killed eel, bullfrog, tender taro, and goose intestines without having to go to Flushing? 😭😭 Last Saturday, I rushed to try Mala Hotpot, the new popular spot in New York lately. I had the tenderest bullfrog legs 🐸 I’ve had since coming to the US, super fresh and long goose intestines just like back home 🐣, the freshly killed eel I’ve missed for so long 🐟, tender taro (my first time trying it as a non-Sichuanese) 🐮, salted egg yolk shrimp balls that burst with flavor, and wagyu that truly melts in your mouth~ They have bottled sesame oil for the dipping sauce, and the broth spice level is just like Flushing’s 🥵—anyway, it’s exactly that authentic taste! The meal was so satisfying! The service is amazing! What’s fun is that except for one Chinese guy taking orders (he’s kinda cute!!), all the other servers are Mexican. They’re so cheerful and lovely—almost dancing to the music~ They kept refilling water, changing plates, and even saying “be careful” in Chinese~ Lao Wang and I couldn’t stop saying we should learn their positive attitude, hhhh. But the duck blood, pig brain, and black tripe I’d wanted to try weren’t available that day. If you’re going for a specific dish, definitely call ahead to check! I was a bit disappointed at first, but the server guy offered 20% off the whole bill later—and I instantly felt better, haha. I’ll definitely go back for the eel, bullfrog, goose intestines, and spicy chicken gizzards! The soy milk pudding 🍮 at the end was so good too. Hope I can try the duck blood, pig brain, and black tripe next time~ That’s it for today’s share—if I made you hungry, that’s a win! Follow me for more NYC life and food finds.
