Lima, Peru | Exploring the UNESCO Heritage Old Town
After flying back from Cusco, I spent my afternoon wandering through Lima's historic center (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988!). Here's how it went: 🚶 Walking Route Highlights: 📍 Plaza San Martín – Statue at the center, lots of police presence (safe for tourists!). 📍 Basílica de La Merced (Free entry) – Pretty but quick visit. ⛪ 📍 Plaza de Armas (Main Square) – Surrounded by: Presidential Palace 🏛️ Lima Cathedral (Paid entry, skipped this time) Street vendors offering souvenirs (haggle if interested!) 💰 📍 Casa de la Literatura (House of Literature) – Free & worth a peek! 📚 📍 San Francisco Church & Catacombs (Paid entry) – Famous for its underground bone crypts 💀 💡 Quick Takes: ✔ Safer than expected! Police everywhere in the old town. 👮 ✔ Architecture = Spanish colonial + Inca influences 🏛️✨ ✔ Peruvians felt more genuine & friendly than in other South American capitals. 😊 ✔ Less chaotic than Chile/Brazil—still, watch for pickpockets! 👀 🍽️ Food Stop: Found a 100-year-old café near Plaza de Armas—perfect for breakfast or a light meal! ☕ #Travel #Peru #Lima #SouthAmerica #Wanderlust #WorldHeritage #Backpacking ✈️🌎
