Mader’s Restaurant | What to Eat in Milwaukee 🍖🍻
📍 Address: 1041 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr Dr Stepping into Mader’s feels like entering two different worlds — one side is a classic American diner, the other a cozy bar, separated only by a wall. Quite a unique vibe! 🧱🍸 This place is legendary — it’s been visited by countless celebrities (their website’s “Celebrity Guest” list is impressively long 📜) and proudly claims to be the German restaurant that has hosted the most U.S. presidents, including JFK, Reagan, and Ford. 🇺🇸👑 We tried the Taste of Germany platter: The pork knuckle (no skin 😢) was a bit disappointing The beef brisket was slightly dry The wurst and pork chop were decent but not memorable — classic German, but nothing special On the sweeter side 🍎🍫: Apple Strudel: The pastry was a bit soggy, but the filling was perfectly balanced — tangy and sweet with just the right amount of cinnamon Black Forest Cake: Really good! Even someone like me (not a dessert expert) could tell the ingredients were high-quality I asked the server for the darkest beer on the menu 🍺, and was served St. Bernardus Abt 12 (I was expecting a German beer, but hey — not complaining!). It had rich caramel and fruity aromas 🍯🍒, a smooth sip with very light carbonation, mid-palate notes of chocolate and nuts 🍫, moderate alcohol warmth, and a slightly sweet finish. I don’t remember the aftertaste well though — I had to get back to eating all that meat! 😋 A historic spot with mixed food execution but solid desserts and great beer. Worth a visit for the experience and presidential vibes! 🥂 #MadisonEats #Milwaukee #GermanFood #HistoricRestaurant #FoodReview #WisconsinDining
