Manchester Restaurant Recommendation — Higher Ground

Ever since I first tried Higher Ground on Valentine's Day this year, I've been back five or six times, and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Along with Erst, it's a restaurant I keep returning to in Manchester. Higher Ground is a modern British bistro-style restaurant that uses seasonal fresh vegetables directly transported from cooperative farms in Cheshire. They offer pork, beef, lamb, poultry, and charcoal-grilled seafood. Although the menu changes daily, the new dishes are consistently good. The portions are small, so it's great for sharing several dishes. Here are a few dishes that left a deep impression: 🍽️ Pea fritters: They sound like a typical British dark cuisine, but after tasting them, I understood why they're a signature dish. No matter how the menu changes, they're always a must-order staple. Mashed peas are formed into fritters, fried, and then coated with a thick layer of cheese while hot. You can still taste the sweet and fresh fragrance of the peas, enhanced by the rich aroma of the cheese. 🍽️ Slow-cooked Peking duck leg: I've only seen this dish once on the menu, and it's one of my favorites. The duck has a crispy skin that's not greasy and is very flavorful. The mushrooms are soaked in sauce and have a meaty texture. A layer of beans and grains underneath is soft and tender, complementing the duck and sauce perfectly. Their meat and poultry dishes change too frequently to order the same one twice, but as long as you choose the type of meat you like, even a blind order will be good. 🍽️ Hand-rolled pasta: This dish is always different every time I go. Sometimes it's venison & red wine ragu, sometimes it's beef ragu. No matter what the meat is, it's not the star; it's the rich sauce and the chewiness of the handmade pasta that stand out, with occasional hints of chilli flakes that add a surprising touch. I personally enjoy booking their bar seat, where you can watch the open kitchen's assembly line-like hustle. Order a few small dishes and a bottle of wine at the bar, and casually chat while eating for two or three hours. The dining happiness can be maximized. #ManchesterExplore #ManchesterFood #BritishCuisine #LifeInTheUK #HiddenGemRestaurant #ManchesterLife
