Mandalay Travel Guide: All You Need to Know!

Given Myanmar's current unstable situation, Mandalay—being close to conflict zones—has been significantly affected. Since most attractions are located outside the city, hiring a private car is the safest and most cost-effective option. We were lucky to meet Mr. Su, a local Chinese-Myanmar driver who speaks fluent Mandarin and provided detailed insights at every stop. He charged only 100,000 MMK (~¥158) for a full-day tour (9 AM–6 PM)—much cheaper than most drivers. Highly recommended! DM me for his contact. Must-Visit Spots 1. Thousand Monk Almsgiving 🙏 Buddhism is deeply rooted in Myanmar’s culture. This daily ritual at a monastery in southern Mandalay begins at 10:30 AM (arrive by 10 AM to see monks queueing). According to Mr. Su, sponsoring the meal costs 10 million MMK (~¥16,000)—a dream for local families, rich or poor. 2. Inwa Ancient City 🏰 Mandalay’s furthest accessible ruin (~30 km from downtown). Pass through military checkpoints (no photos!). Though less preserved than Bagan’s pagodas, the friendly villagers and crumbling temples offer an authentic glimpse of history. Entry: 15,000 MMK. 3. Jade Pagoda 💚 A gem lover’s paradise! This small temple features jade stupas and Buddha statues, including high-quality "ice jade" pieces. 4. U Bein Bridge 🌉 Mandalay’s iconic "Love Bridge" stretches across the lake. At sunset, the shimmering water and golden light create pure magic. Words can’t do it justice—just go! (Word limit reached—see next post for "Attractions to Skip"!) #Mandalay #MyanmarTravel #UBeinBridge #JadePagoda #BudgetTravel
