Mi Yi (formerly Italian) in a 5-star hotel

I’m back in New York—with the cold weather 🌨️ and work piling up, I figured I totally deserved a little treat! I booked a table here on a whim the day before, and surprisingly, there were plenty of spots available—lucky me! 😊 🍴 Ai Fiori The restaurant is inside The Langham. When you first walk in, there’s a cozy bar area, but the dining room in the back is nice and quiet—perfect for a relaxed meal. The ambiance and service are both top-notch 👌. It used to be a Michelin-starred spot, though—apparently, it lost the star in the 22-23 rankings. Bummer, but I was still excited to try! Their pre-meal bread was such a nice touch: a slice of focaccia and a baguette-like loaf, served with a garlicky hummus-esque dip. Both breads are savory, and the focaccia was perfect for sopping up sauces from the main dishes later—so good I almost filled up on it! 😅 For appetizers, we had the 【poached egg】 and a cold soup. The cold soup looked creamy but wasn’t too thick—surprisingly refreshing and super appetizing! 🤤 I really loved the 【poached egg】—the yolk was runny in the best way 🥚, sprinkled with cheese that added a salty, fragrant kick. Next to it was a tomatoey stew, and the whole dish was tasty—totally up my alley as someone who leans toward Chinese flavor preferences. For mains, we both ordered the 【short rib】. It was braised until super tender—no knife needed, it just fell apart with a fork! 🥩 The flavor was okay, but it was a bit too salty. The beans on the side were good, though—softened just right, soaking up all that beefy flavor. The only letdown was the desserts 😬. The 【tiramisu】 wasn’t the traditional mascarpone-and-ladyfinger kind—it had a mousse-like texture and was way too sweet. The 【affogato】 was better, but the coffee flavor was too faint. They brought out little madeleine-like pastries after the meal, which were decent—you could taste the lemon 🍋 and butter, a nice little end to the meal. Overall, I think it’s worth a visit! The food is above average, the ambiance and service are great, and it’s convenient since it’s near Ktown.
