Must-Try Duck Wellington with Foie Gras-Like Flavor
💜I went to Maison Nico for their savory pastries, and it was a delightful experience. 💜Pithivier Duck Pie This is hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. The center is filled with duck liver that melts in your mouth, closely resembling the taste of foie gras. The duck breast is tender and flavorful. When you dine in, they warm it up and serve it with a salad and sauce. The sauce is a sweet vinegar reduction, reminiscent of sweet and sour pork. The puff pastry has distinct layers, with a rich buttery aroma and a perfect texture. I’d say both the pastry and the meat are more enjoyable than any Wellington I’ve tried before. 💜Pâté en Croute de Tomate Farcie A square of puff pastry filled with pork and parsley, topped with a bit of aspic and dried tomatoes. The tomatoes add a sweet and tangy flavor, similar to plums. The texture is like ham but not overly salty. 💜Croissant The croissant is quite standard—delicious and buttery, though nothing out of the ordinary. At four dollars, it’s a decent value for the price. 💜Cannele The inside is soft with a pudding-like texture, while the outside has the classic caramelized, chewy crust. 💜Parisienne Crème Brûlée Tart This caramel custard tart has a firm custard texture with a flaky crust, unlike other pie crusts. The sweetness is very low, making it a perfect choice for those with a less sweet tooth. The meat-based pastries are on the pricier side but are their signature items and can serve as a main course. The other pastries and desserts are reasonably priced, lower than similar French bakeries. This place is definitely worth revisiting. 📍 Maison Nico 710 Montgomery St, San Francisco, CA 94111 #BayArea #SanFrancisco #SanFranciscoFood #BayAreaBakery #Croissant #Wellington #FoieGras #Michelin #FrenchPastry
