Must-Visit Jazz Sanctuaries in New York: Smalls & Mezzrow ๐ท
๐ขIn the city that never sleeps, New York, there are two hidden gems that resonate deeply with the soul: Smalls Jazz Club and Mezzrow. ๐ ๐Smalls Jazz Club, founded in 1994, is a basement treasure in Greenwich Village (a neighborhood I absolutely adore). It once faced closure due to financial issues but was revived by the unwavering passion of jazz enthusiasts. ๐ถ ๐ธIts "sibling," Mezzrow, focuses more on piano and offers an intimate atmosphere, paying homage to pianist Mel Mezzrow. ๐น These venues are not only launching pads for jazz newcomers but also secret stages for legendary musicians like Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, and Chris Potter. ๐ต ๐ This time, I visited with good friends to enjoy a performance by the REGGIE WATKINS QUARTET. The quartet's diverse instruments and technical prowess were truly exceptional. ๐ถ Jazz is like lifeโimprovised, authentic, imperfect yet deeply moving. I highly recommend these spots to anyone in New York seeking an emotional connection through music on a night out. ๐ #MusicAndArt #JazzBar #NYCJazzSpots ๐
