My Last Day in Berkeley & Exploring "The Most Dangerous City" 🏙️
Today marked the final day of my summer program in Berkeley, and I decided to venture into Oakland—often labeled one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. But let me tell you, it wasn’t exactly what I expected! I took the bus from Berkeley along San Pablo Avenue, and the journey was… eye-opening 😳. We passed through some extremely rough neighborhoods—think crumbling buildings, graffiti everywhere, streets filled with tents, and an atmosphere that felt even more intense than downtown Los Santos in GTA 5 🎮. It was a stark reminder of the urban struggles many cities face. But then I arrived near Lake Merritt 🌊, and the vibe completely changed. The area was lively, green, and surprisingly peaceful! People were jogging, biking, and picnicking by the water. The lake itself is beautiful, with a necklace of lights glittering along its perimeter—it’s no wonder this spot is called the “Jewel of Oakland” 💎. I felt safe and welcomed here, a total contrast to what I saw on the way. Afterward, I headed to MacArthur for dinner 🍽️. Just a short distance from Oakland, but it felt like a different universe—clean streets, cozy cafes, and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s amazing how boundaries between neighborhoods can shift so dramatically. Oakland is a city of contrasts: grit and beauty, struggle and resilience. It’s raw, real, and misunderstood by many. I’m glad I came with an open mind and saw it for myself 👀✔️. Would I recommend visiting? Yes—but be smart, stay aware of your surroundings, and don’t believe everything you hear. Not all of Oakland is dangerous, and places like Lake Merritt are truly worth seeing 🌟. #BerkeleySummerProgram #OaklandDiaries #UrbanExplorer #TravelRealTalk #CaliforniaLife #LakeMerritt #BeyondTheHeadlines #CityOfContrasts
