Near London | Great Spots for Mansions, Farms, and Family Outings 🏑

Last weekend, we visited Wimpole Estate in Cambridgeshire, a National Trust property. We went with the intention of exploring a grand estate, but what left a lasting impression was the Home Farm within the estate. 🌿 🌟 Pigs As we approached, we thought there was a carnival or haunted house nearby because of the screams we heard. Turns out, it was just the pigs in their pen getting ready to be fed. The noise they made was unforgettable! πŸ– 🌟 Horses There are a few Shire horses here, a breed that was once widely used in the UK but is now quite rare. They are massiveβ€”literally enormous. The biggest one in the estate, Stanley, is almost two meters tall. When we visited, he was scratching himself, and we literally patted him on the back. 🐎 🌟 Chickens One type of chicken here is particularly amusing. They have tiny wings and feathers all the way down their legs and ankles, making them look like they're wearing fluffy trousers. Their walk is especially entertaining. πŸ” 🌟 Other Animals In addition to these, there are also sheep, donkeys, ponies, cows, and more. The list goes on! πŸ‘ 🌟 Gardens and Plants The gardens and kitchen garden within the estate are also worth a visit. We saw a fruit called the medlar, also known as the "tree strawberry" or "foreign waxberry," which is said to be Italy's national fruit. 🌿 🌟 The Mansion Not many rooms in the mansion are open to the public, but the interiors and decorations are exquisite. It's a case of quality over quantity. Whether it's the drawing rooms (there are several...) or the library, none of them are ordinary. The last owner's father (the lady's father) was the famous writer Rudyard Kipling, and there's a box here with his name on it. 🏰 🌟 Halloween Fun During Halloween, the estate hides "spiders" all over the interior. While adults enjoy the grandeur of the mansion, kids have a blast searching for the hidden spiders! πŸ•ΈοΈ 🌟 Wimpole Folly A great spot for a panoramic view, though it's a bit of a detour to get there. πŸŒ… We spent five hours exploring the estate and only left when it was about to close. πŸ•’ πŸ“ Getting There Public Transport: You can take a bus from Cambridge. By Car: National Trust has a large parking lot available. πŸš— #UKTravel #NearLondon #WeekendInLondon #FamilyOuting #NearCambridge #FamilyFriendlyFarm #WeekendActivities #UKLife #WhereToGoOnWeekends
