If you’re heading to Guadalupe Mountains National Park or Carlsbad Caverns, you’ll likely stay in the town of Carlsbad. Like many small Southwest towns, it’s sustained by tourism and nearby oil fields. Dining options are limited, but after checking Yelp, we found Blue House Bakery & Cafe—a cozy spot perfect for breakfast before hitting the road! 🥐☀️ From the outside, it looks like a regular single-family home 🏡, but the patio is filled with tables for outdoor dining. Inside, it feels like you’re visiting a local’s house—you can even tell which room was the original living room and which was the dining area! Order at the counter, grab your number, and pick any table. The staff will bring your food right to you. Friendly and laid-back! 😊 🥐 Breakfast Croissant with Bacon & Scrambled Eggs A tasty twist: it’s served with local green chili sauce! Feels like having breakfast with a New Mexican version of Lao Gan Ma—spicy and super appetizing. ☕️ Coffee Muffin Loaded with coffee bits and chocolate chunks. A perfect balance of sweet and bitter—so yummy! 🥪 Breakfast Sandwich with Ham & Scrambled Eggs Served on house-made ciabatta bread, warm and fragrant 🥖. And yes, it also comes with that iconic NM green chili sauce. ☕️ House Coffee Honestly, as someone used to Chicago’s specialty coffee scene, the brew here was just okay. But they have fun syrup flavors like French Toast—worth a try! 🐱 The Resident Cafe Cat The real star! Wanders around and lovingly rubs against your legs during your meal. So adorable, you’ll wish you could take them home in your backpack! 😻 They also sell cute cat-themed merch 🛍️. As cat lovers, we couldn’t resist coming back the next day before continuing our road trip. Even without the feline charm, the food here is genuinely great!
