New Mexico Travel Journal | The Path of Faith – Santa Fe, NM ✨🙏
After visiting White Sands, our next planned stop was Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Unfortunately, a snowstorm hit the area ❄️🌨️, closing the park and blocking mountain access. So we changed plans and drove north directly to Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. Santa Fe’s architecture is truly unique—most buildings are under three stories, with earthy, textured adobe walls and exposed wooden beams that give a rustic, ancient feel, inspired by Native American building traditions. 🏺🧱 When we arrived early in the morning, most shops and museums were still closed. The city felt like it was still asleep, wrapped in a timeless, peaceful silence. 🌄✨ Santa Fe is famous for its churches, which became the highlight of our visit. These include: • San Miguel Chapel, the oldest church in the U.S. • The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, the seat of the Santa Fe Archdiocese • Loretto Chapel, known for its miraculous spiral staircase. All three are located in the downtown area within walking distance, reflecting the density and richness of spiritual sites here. The city’s name comes from Spanish, meaning “Holy Faith.” 🕊️ During early colonial rule, it became a center for trade and missionary work in New Mexico. Perhaps to strengthen cultural influence, colonizers built many churches here. Today, most of these churches are preserved as historical sites. While some may see colonial echoes in them, the blend of historic religious atmosphere, Indigenous cultural traces, and the wild desert landscape of the West has inspired countless artists. 🎨🌵 This town of less than 100,000 people has become another major art hub in the U.S.—second only to New York. 🖼️❤️ #SantaFe #NewMexico #TravelUSA #TravelDiary #AmericanLife #OffTheBeatenPath #HistoricChurches #ArtTown #CulturalBlend #SouthwestVibes #DesertSoul #ArchitectureLovers #SpiritualJourney #Wanderlust #ExploreNewMexico
