New Orleans Food Guide đ´
New Orleans is a famous food city, especially perfect for seafood lovers. Its unique food culture is deeply influenced by French, Spanish, African, and Caribbean traditions. Here are the must-try signature dishes in New Orleans: 1. Poâboys 𼪠A classic Louisiana sandwich stuffed with seafood like shrimp. Highly recommend Liuzzaâs by the Trackâa local favorite spot for sandwiches. Their BBQ Shrimp Poâboys and Crawfish Etouffee are absolutely delicious; you canât miss them! 2. Gumbo đ˛ Another must-try classic in Louisiana. Itâs a hearty stew filled with turkey necks, seafood, chicken legs, and more. We had it at a friendâs house this timeâitâs worth trying once, but not something Iâd crave again. Almost every restaurant in Louisiana serves Gumbo, so youâll have plenty of chances to taste it. 3. Crawfish Boils đŚ Louisianaâs crawfish is known far and wide, and Cajun-style crawfish is a must-eat. You can enjoy fresh live crawfish from late January to July. We visited during Thanksgiving, so we missed crawfish seasonâbut the fresh blue crabs were also fantastic! Strongly recommend Boil Seafood House for this. 4. French Cuisine đŤđˇ If youâre visiting the French Quarter, donât skip Galatoireâsâa James Beard Award-winning restaurant. It serves classic French cuisine blended with local flavors. Try their Oyster Rockefellerâitâs a standout! Note that the restaurant is small and has a lively, party-like atmosphere, so itâs not the best choice for families with kids. Be sure to make a reservation in advance! 5. Beignets đ§ Warm, fried pastries dusted with tons of powdered sugar. CafĂŠ du Monde is the iconic spot everyone visits. There are locations in the French Quarter and City Parkâpersonally, I think the French Quarter branch tastes better, but the wait is longer (worth it for the vibe, though! đ). 6. Spoonbill đ This restaurant in Lafayette gets my highest recommendation! If youâre passing through Lafayette, make sure to stop by this eatery converted from an old gas station. Their signature dish is duckâsuper juicy and tender. Their whole fish and shrimp are also amazing; you can basically order anything without worrying about a miss. The decor is unique too, with a cool, rustic charm đ˘ď¸. Bonus: Where to Stay in New Orleans đ¨ Hyatt Centric (French Quarter): Right outside Bourbon Streetâyou can walk to all the best spots in New Orleans on foot. Surprisingly, itâs not too noisy, but the area feels a bit unsafe at night, so try to get back to the hotel early. Hyatt House (Downtown): The neighborhood is safer, making it great for families with kids. Plus, their breakfast is deliciousâperfect for starting your day of eating!
