New York’s Hidden Gem: The Visually Striking Lebanese Restaurant

Met up with friends again on the weekend for a meal in Manhattan. To be honest, I never imagined that Middle Eastern cuisine could be presented so beautifully! 🌟 Cold Mezza - Cold Dishes We ordered Labne, Mouhamara, and Moussaka, which are Middle Eastern yogurt sauce, walnut paste, and eggplant puree, respectively, served with complimentary pita bread for dipping. The yogurt sauce was super tangy, with hints of mint and another spice called zaatar; The walnut paste was quite innovative; usually, Middle Eastern dishes come with the standard hummus, but the walnut paste was even more fragrant and topped with pomegranate syrup; I first heard of moussaka while vacationing in Santorini, Greece, which is a baked dish of lamb, eggplant, tomato, and cheese in a lasagna style, but ilili’s moussaka was a completely different affair, a smooth, cooled puree of eggplant and tomato with a delicate olive oil aroma. 🌟 Hot Mezza - Hot Dishes We tried the Grilled Octopus and Shakshuka Eggs in Cocotte. To be honest, I didn’t find anything particularly special about them; they were on par with the average of similar restaurants. 🌟 Main Plates - Main Courses We went for the Mixed Grill, 🐮🐑🐷🐔 a little bit of every type of grilled meat, accompanied by grilled vegetables and three garlic dipping sauces that looked like ice cream scoops. The presentation was instantly elevated! Although we were already about 70-80% full from the previous dishes with pita bread, who can resist the allure of grilled meat? The highest respect was to polish it all off. If you’re going for the visuals and the ambiance of the restaurant, ilili is definitely worth a visit. But if you’re a connoisseur of Middle Eastern cuisine, I have another hidden gem restaurant to share with you all later. #ExploringManhattan #MiddleEasternCuisineInManhattan #NewYorkFood #LebaneseFood #ManhattanWorkers #NewYorkWeekend #HiddenGemRestaurant #NewYorkFoodGuide #hummus #LebaneseGrill
