New York’s Spanish Tapas Haven 🍗
📍 La Vara 🟩This hidden gem of a Spanish tavern in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill is run by the same owner as the previously mentioned Saint Julivert. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited a restaurant where every dish was a delight. I spent three hours chatting and sipping drinks with friends, 😋 and as soon as we left, I was already looking for a way to book another visit. Ajo Blanco | Pine nut, almond, and sweet shrimp gazpacho. This gazpacho was the best of the night for me—super creamy, thanks to the nuts, without any dairy heaviness. But my Spanish friend, Qiu Qiu, corrected me, saying that authentic gazpacho is red, not white. I say, if it tastes good, that’s all that matters. 🥤 🟩Pulpo de Roca | Oil-infused octopus slices. Promise me you’ll order this. Please. Salchichon | A must-order Iberian ham at any Spanish restaurant. The ham is sliced paper-thin, and the burst of savory fat in your mouth is unbeatable. Perfect for drinking! I wasn’t planning on having a drink, but this dish made me order one. The fried artichoke and anchovy aioli on top are simply divine. 🟩Arroz Meloso | Lobster risotto. The tomato base cuts through the richness, and the sweetness of the lobster meat is perfect for sipping wine. Cochinillo | Roast pork knuckle with chimichurri. The skin is crispy, the meat is tender, and the fat is fragrant. No complaints here. 🟩Cheesecake | Basque cheesecake. I didn’t expect the dessert to be this good. The value of a not-too-sweet cake—does anyone get it? #NewYork #NYCFoodie #NYCExploration #Spain #Tapas #Brooklyn #NYCLife #HiddenGemRestaurants #DrinkingRoutine #NYCEatDrinkPlay
