New York's new restaurant by Jungsik, Deputy Chef!
This tiny spot only has around a dozen seats at the chef’s counter, but the decor is so fun—modern industrial Brooklyn style, and the date vibe is off the charts! We didn’t expect it, but on a snowy Thursday night, every seat was taken ❄️ And apart from us, everyone there was American. The whole time, we heard them gushing—“Chinese food is amazing!” “Mind-blowing!”... It put me in such a good mood. There are nine dishes on the menu, plus some small plates and desserts, totaling 12 courses. The “Chinese dishes with Western twists” concept is so clever. The first dish—scallion brioche with fermented tofu butter—was incredible 🍞 Right after, the sashimi with oolong tea soy sauce 🐟 The fluke and scallop spring rolls were a standout for me—the wrappers were super light and crispy, not greasy at all. The coconut chicken soup had a hint of lemon 🍋, making it even more refreshingly sweet. For mains: The first was perch with a sauce made of dried shrimp and winter melon puree. The second was duck leg—maybe a bit tough, but get this—it came with a spicy chili and century egg taco! Who says foreigners don’t eat century egg? They were licking their fingers clean—we saw 😉 Now, the highlights: Both desserts stole my heart! The first was cucumber-yuzu sorbet 🥒—tasted like cucumber chips came to life, in the best way. The second was a hazelnut cream mille-feuille—so fragrant I could faint!! The white chocolate had a subtle milk tea note, and the puff pastry layers were super crispy. I’d come back just for this dessert. We didn’t add any extras, so it was $185 per person. All in all, such a great experience—perfect for dates or anniversary dinners. Okay, that’s today’s share—hope I made you hungry!
