harbs Back in my undergrad days, I used to make a detour to buy a couple of these cakes from Lumine in Shinjuku as a breakfast treat. They taste very similar to the ones in Tokyo. If youβre craving a big slice of cream and fruit cake, this is your spot! My favorites are the chestnut tart and strawberry cream cake. Personal Rankings: First Tier: π Strawberry Cake: Everything about strawberries here is delicious. Iβve never had a bad experience with their strawberry-flavored treats. π° Waguri Tarte: The chestnut puree is wrapped in a creamy filling with a hint of alcohol and red bean crumbs. The almond tart base is average, but I love the creamy texture. π° Second Tier: π° Fresh Fruits Mille-Feuille: This is the most popular one online and looks stunning, but I prefer their multi-fruit sponge cake over the mille-feuille. Best enjoyed fresh from the store! π« King Chocolate Cake / Chocolate Custard Cake: The chocolate offerings are quite rich and satisfying for chocolate lovers. π« Patisserie Tomoko While strolling through Williamsburg in Brooklyn, I stumbled upon this charming Japanese patisserie, perfect for a sunny afternoon break. The wooden decor inside is incredibly soothing, and the aroma of π΅ tea fills the air. The cakes are delightful too! Mont Blanc πππππ The chestnut puree is perfectly blended into the cream. Though the chestnut flavor isn't overpowering, it offers a completely different yet equally delicious experience compared to Angelina. If you love light textures, this is a must-try! π² Matcha Mille-Feuille ππππ Itβs delicious, though I feel it doesnβt quite match up to Lady Mβs version. Still worth a try if youβre a matcha fan! π Yuzu Dakwaaz πππ I prefer Miomioβs, but this one is still pretty good. The yuzu adds a nice citrusy twist. π Yuzu Shortbread πππππ A friend bought these, so I donβt have a photo, but theyβre incredibly crumbly and refreshing, with a hint of yuzu. Highly recommended as a tea-time treat! πͺ Black Sesame Caramel Nut Tartππ I was hoping for something similar to the caramel walnut tart from Kamakura, but the filling here is more like traditional black sesame red bean paste. Not quite what I expected, but still tasty! π° π΅ Jasmine Pearl πππππ The tea here is so fragrant and pairs perfectly with the desserts. Highly recommended for a cozy treat! π΅ #NewYork #JapaneseSweets ππ
