New York | Semma
I once asked my Indian friend if there were any good Indian restaurants in New York, and he highly recommended Semma. So I came with super high expectations. ๐ Gunpowder Dosa โ A crispy pancake filled with curry potato masala ๐ฅ. Itโs a must-order dish at every table, and it really lives up to the hype. It was the most delicious food of the night! Attu Kari Sukka โ Stewed Lamb . Just ordinary stewed lamb. Goanese Oxtail โ Stewed Oxtail . Just ordinary stewed oxtail (the portion next to us was much bigger). ๐ฆ Parotta & Coconut Rice โ The side dishes of flaky pastry and coconut rice. The coconut rice was salty, made with regular rice instead of sticky rice, and it was a bit mushy and undercooked. It was really not good. The pastry was just a butter-fried, flaky layered pastry. Valiya Chemmeen Moilee โ Lobster Tail Curry ๐ฆ. The curry had coconut milk and mustard, giving it a flavor similar to green curry. If you donโt like green curry, you probably wonโt like this dish. Shahi Tukda โ Fried bread dipped in saffron syrup and milk, topped with crushed nuts ๐ฐ. It tasted a bit like three-milk cake, but the texture wasnโt as fluffy, and it was super sweet. Overall, the restaurant serves Southern Indian food. It wasnโt as amazing as my Indian friend said it was. ๐ฆ The stewed lamb and oxtail tasted a bit like home-cooked dishes. But it did change my misconception that Indian food is just bowls of mush. ๐ฟ #NewYork #NewYorkFood ๐
