New York | Sushi Review: Kanoyama (1)🍣
Last night, with a hopeful heart, I called to see if there were any seats available in the main hall. To my surprise, they had an Omakase available! I left work early to catch the first seating. Ironically, that day I found out my H1B visa application was denied. 🎢🍃 This place was the perfect comfort meal. Omakase is only available from Wednesday to Saturday, and it’s always fully booked. After hearing so many positive reviews from friends, my expectations were sky-high! 🌟 🍶 Sake Dishes ▪️ Onion Lobster Soup ▪️ Vinegared Seaweed, Pufferfish Liver Orange Marmalade, Uni Chawanmushi ▪️ Flounder & Skirt Steak ▪️ King Crab, Tartar Sauce ▪️ Fluorescent Squid, Hokkaido Scallops, Broccoli Rabe, Uni Mayo 🍣 Sushi ▪️ Maguro Temaki, North Carolina, 7 Days ▪️ Grouper, Salted Cherry Blossom Leaves ▪️ Hamachi, Yuzu Pepper🎢🍃 ▪️ Saba, Daikon Radish Puree ▪️ Kohada *2, Estimated 2 Days ▪️ Seki-aji *2, Unbeatable ▪️ Red Snapper ▪️ Kuroge Wagyu ▪️ Toro ▪️ Chutoro🎢🍃 ▪️ Uni ▪️ Shrimp ▪️ Negitoro ▪️ Mega Tamago 🍵 Dessert ▪️ Honey Lemon Tea ▪️ Caramel Pudding, Chestnut Red Bean 🎢🍃 ▪️ Kombu Tea The first round was a bit rushed, and by the last two pieces of sushi, the next guests were already arriving. The sake dishes were a bit too rich, giving me a French appetizer vibe. The onion lobster soup was very sweet, and the sweetness lingered in my mouth, affecting the taste of the following dishes. 🎢🍃 The king crab and fluorescent squid dishes were also dominated by the sauce, which was quite similar and completely overshadowed the natural flavors of the ingredients. The king crab reminded me of the baked crab at Kani Douraku, but with a tartar sauce that had a fish and chips twist. However, the flounder was delicious, the skirt steak was very crispy, the pufferfish liver marmalade was delightful, and the scallops were huge, though the uni was barely noticeable in the mayo-based sauce. 🎢🍃 #NewYork #NewYorkSushi #NewYorkOmakase 🌆✨
