New York | YAO Modern Cantonese Cuisine (1)
How Is the Food at the New High-End Cantonese Restaurant YAO in the Financial District? 🌟 🌿🌟 Yesterday, I posted about the Fu Yao August Gatherings in Chinatown, and today I’m reviewing the new restaurant YAO. The address is a bit tricky to find. The restaurant is on the second floor, so you have to take the elevator up. The pre-meal appetizer was crispy white carrots, which had a rather light flavor—nothing special. 🌿🌟 Charcoal-Baked Black Pork BBQ 🔥 The large pieces of char siu were sliced and served. The interplay of salty and sweet flavors, along with the well-marbled meat, was quite good. However, the refined approach to the roasted meats didn't quite allow for a hearty, indulgent experience. The side dish (ginger slices) was a bit of an odd pairing, and everyone was rather silent about it. The young man who performed the dish presentation was definitely an introvert. He didn't say a word, but all eyes were on him! 🥩 Traditional Salt-Baked Chicken 🥘 Before serving, they showed you the salt-baked chicken in the casserole. After breaking it down, the chicken was brought to the table. It wasn't a soft, overcooked chicken; the flavor was decent. The wings were slightly charred. Classic Scallion-Dressed Whole Fish 🐟 The fish was topped with a thick layer of scallions. There was no fishy smell, just freshness. The fish was large, had few bones, and the bones were easy to remove—a very considerate dish. 🌿🌟 Goose Fat-Roasted Angus Beef Short Ribs 🥩 I've had this at the old location, and I ordered it again at the new one. It was as excellent as ever! The portion was a bit small, though. #NewYork
