New York 🌟 | Checking In to New York's Hwang Heung Dong 🫠
Baekjeong NYC 🍃 The legendary Hwang Heung Dong needs little introduction. Before the pandemic, it was always packed with long lines. This was my first visit post-pandemic, and surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't full at mealtime. As soon as we sat down, a spread of complimentary banchan arrived. The tofu was exceptional—so delicious! I’m a huge fan. The BBQ seasoning is also a standout: a special soy sauce with a hint of wasabi that’s incredibly refreshing and cuts through the richness. 🍖 🌺 We ordered the set meal from the menu—which is conveniently available in Chinese! The set included a small portion of fatty beef and marinated pork ribs for $119.99, with an option to upgrade to premium beef short ribs for an additional $20. The set also came with a choice of soup. 🌊 The fatty beef was pretty standard, and the marinated pork ribs seemed a bit over-marinated, making them slightly salty. The $20 upgrade to beef short ribs was, in my opinion, not worth it.🌟 It only included three small pieces, and I didn’t find the quality exceptional. Definitely not necessary! The soup we chose, fatty beef soup, was way too salty—almost entirely dominated by the seasoning. Not recommended.🌟 🎢We also ordered the cold noodles à la carte for $18. They were quite ordinary, with a predominance of sourness despite the addition of sweet pears. Overall, my friend and I felt that spending around $100 per person, including tips, wasn’t great value for money. If you’re drawn by Hwang Heung Dong’s reputation, it’s definitely acceptable. The service is good, but I’d recommend ordering à la carte or considering other main dishes recommended by friends. If you’re here for BBQ, there are plenty of options in Koreatown. 🌃 🌸 #NewYork #NYCFoodGuide 🌟
