New York Affordable Omakase | 13-course $68 scallop and toro feast
Ever since I ate at Yoshino, it’s set the bar so high that other omakase spots feel underwhelming—but let’s be real, I can’t afford to eat there all the time! Then Nakaji left me disappointed, so I’ve fully embraced affordable omakase. I’ve shared some spots before, and over the weekend, I tried another one—here’s an honest review 📝 ✨ It’s super popular, probably because it’s near a school—you must make a reservation! When I went Saturday noon, the place was packed from start to finish—crazy busy! ✨ For an omakase around $100, the ambiance is solid. It has a warm wooden vibe, spacious, clean, and tidy—no loud, annoying music like some spots. We ordered a bottle of yuzu wine a la carte, and it was really good~ The only slightly wild moment? A group was celebrating a birthday, so the lights suddenly went out, birthday songs played, and everyone joined in—but it was fun and lively, so no complaints!🥰 💰 There are two price options: 13 courses for $68 and 17 courses for $96. You pick once you’re seated—I’ve attached the menu in the pics. My bestie and I tried both, and the 17-course is pretty filling. It has extra items compared to the 13-course: sweet shrimp, a few more fish pieces, and the hand roll even has foie gras~ ✨ I went for the 17-course, and my faves were the oysters/scallops/sweet shrimp/otoro/uni/eel, plus the wagyu-foie-gras-uni hand roll. The matcha mochi at the end was nice too~ The pacing was good, not rushed at all—perfect for chatting with friends and having a relaxed time. ✨ Our sushi chef was Brian—he’s quiet but clearly a sweetheart. Noticing I kept taking photos, he even held up the uni for me to snap a pic 🥰 ✨ Taste-wise: The rice is on the soft side, with mild vinegar—no strong tang. The fish slices are big and fresh, and the seasoning leans innovative. Personally, I wish there was a bit more wasabi, but the value for money is unbeatable! That last bite of wagyu-uni-foie gras? Pure happiness in my mouth (yes, I’m a sucker for rich flavors—no shame!). Next time, I might try the $68 one and check out the “fun list” too~ ✨ Genki Omakase ✨ 552 LaGuardia Pl #4, New York, NY 10012 #NewYorkAffordableSushi #NewYorkAffordableOmakase #NewYorkOmakase #ManhattanOmakase #AffordableOmakase #NewYorkJapaneseFood
