New York African Cuisine | Radio Kwara (1)๐
๐ขRadio Kwara is located in Brooklyn and is the sister restaurant to Dept of Culture, another African cuisine spot. The owner has even won a James Beard Award! Today was my first time trying African food, and I was excited to explore this culinary adventure. ๐ Mushroom Agege ๐ข The bread is incredibly soft and perfectly toasted to a golden brown with butter. It reminded me of the thick toast you can find back home, but the butter and slight char amplify the wheat flavor to a whole new level. It's pure comfort food! The mushrooms on top have a delicious, sautรฉed flavor that reminds me of the mushrooms we enjoy at home. ๐๐ Goat Noodle Soup ๐ This dish feels like a low-key version of the clear broth lamb noodles from Lanzhou. The soup is quite spicy, thanks to the abundant Sichuan peppercorns, which give it a nice kick. However, the noodles are super soft and almost mushy, earning it the title of "low-key Lanzhou noodles." ๐ Egusi Fufu ๐ I was super excited about this dish after hearing about it. Fufu is one of the most common African staples, and I've been curious about it for years. When it arrived, it was a bit underwhelming. The fufu itself has a strong starchy flavor and a slightly slimy texture, similar to okra. The soup underneath is a bit oily, but the spinach adds a nice touch that makes it somewhat enjoyable. ๐ฅ ๐ธ Overall, Radio Kwara offers a unique dining experience that introduces you to the rich flavors of African cuisine. It's definitely worth a visit if you're looking to try something new! ๐ ๐ Brooklyn, New York #NewYork #AfricanCuisine #CulinaryAdventure ๐๐
