New York Baking | Otway Bakery (1)š„§
I might have discovered a secret to finding great bakeries - look for in - house bakeries of good restaurants. ššø Sometimes when dining out, you get amazing pre - meal bread (even better than the main course). Although you might be able to get some to - go if you ask, it's really the stores that sell directly to the public that are truly kind - hearted. This time, the kind - hearted Otway is a corner wine bar on Fulton St. ššø One thing to note is that the bakery and the restaurant are not in the same place. If you're getting a TGTG bag, it's at the restaurant (which only has main - course bread). The bakery, just a few dozen meters away, only opens until 3 p.m. When I picked up the bag, I observed the restaurant's atmosphere. ššø Although the space is a bit cramped, it feels very cozy. But mainly, the bread is just too delicious, making you want to try it with some dishes. š° Scone $3.5 I didn't write down the flavor in detail; it's probably a rotating menu. The powdered sugar on top looks a bit intimidating, but it's just that one layer. The dough has a very mild taste (a plus), paired with the fresh scent of orange peel and a few raisins (another plus). ššø Most importantly, the texture is very authentic - it's neither dry and crumbly nor under - baked (huge plus), which is really touching. #NewYork š
