New York Day Trip|Ultra-Relaxing Wave Hill Train Guide

On a sunny summer day, it’s time to share some past adventures! 🌞 🏫 Starting from Columbia University and moving uptown, my personal landmarks include Hamilton Grange near CUNY at 135th St, Columbia University Medical Center at 168th St, the MET Cloisters at 190th St, and the Instagram-famous Villa Charlotte Bronte along the river. And just a little further up, you’ll find Wave Hill—a hidden gem! 🚂 🚂 From Manhattan’s Grand Central, take the Hudson Line’s Croton-Harmon local train (departing around 9 AM). After crossing the river, hop off at Riverdale—your gateway to tranquility. 📍 Follow the 20-minute walk to the front gate, arriving around 9:55 AM. Grab tickets from the guard, ask about the latest blooms, and voilà—it’s 10 AM opening time! ⏳ 💐 Enter and take the left-hand trail, passing the majestic Copper Beech Tree and sprawling lawns, leading to the 1️⃣ must-see spot: Hudson Pergola. Lush potted plants sway gently, contrasting with the dramatic NJ cliffs across the river. Spot planes soaring overhead—it’s a moment of serene reflection. ✨ 🪷 Stroll past the greenhouse (opens at 10:30 AM) and you might encounter groups of horticulture students—perhaps a field trip? Head uphill to the 2️⃣ iconic spot: Upper Pergola & Aquatic Garden. Vibrant water lilies and lotuses, arranged with Mediterranean flair, create a dreamy escape. 🌸 📷 Other photo-worthy highlights: A narrow pine-tree pathway (perfect for moody shots). Open lawns with 60th-anniversary art sculptures (symbolizing plant growth with red/blue lights). The greenhouse (featuring giant adorable fans). The gallery café (for a quick refreshment). ☕ 💡 By the time you’ve snapped away, the local parents with strollers and couples will just be arriving. Casually drop some trivia: "Did you know? This park was gifted to NYC in the 1960s!" 🌿 Wave Hill is close to all the spots mentioned earlier—just a quick ride-share away. The park also offers an hourly shuttle back to the train station. 🚌 Wishing everyone a blissful summer! 🌻 #NYCLife #NYCDayTrip #WaveHill #USA #NYCFamilyFun #MetroNorth #GrandCentral
