New York Delights | Seafood Taverns Galore 🐟🍷!
➊ Penny🦪 Claud, located downstairs, is its sister restaurant (which, by the way, I still haven’t reviewed yet 🫢). Upon entering, you’re greeted by a long bar and an open kitchen—it’s a bit cramped but adds to the fun. The process of salting, flipping, and drizzling sauce before serving adds a lively touch. The menu focuses on a seafood raw bar. The Ice Box of the day caught our eye. We opted for the version with Razor Clams and scallops. Fresh ingredients never go wrong, though the clams were a tad underwhelming, with less plump meat and a bit of a lackluster seasoning. The Sesame Brioche 🧈, freshly baked and warm, was incredibly flaky and fragrant. The Stuffed Squid was a delightful dish. The filling had a flavor reminiscent of mackerel dumplings, but it was actually Swiss chard and tuna. The outer layer of squid had a charming charcoal-grilled aroma, and the dish was drizzled with a spicy oil sauce, making it a perfect accompaniment to drinks. 👍🏻 ➋ Time and Tide The fourth establishment under the Kent Hospitality Group 🗺️—a seafood-focused steakhouse? More like a fish house! I was initially drawn by their massive 🧀 Cheddar Goldfish crackers—crispy and adorable, with just the right amount of saltiness. The Cacio e Pepe Squid 🦑 was the star of the night. The Longfin squid was incredibly fresh, with a tender and bouncy texture. The black pepper and cheese sauce was rich and creamy, coating each piece of squid that was slightly charred to perfection. Delicious! ➌ Foxface Natural I previously reviewed their game menu 🦊, proving they excel at meat dishes, but seafood is actually their forte. I returned a couple of weeks ago for their regular Prix fixe. The Kangaroo Tartare was even better this time, with a seasonal spinach purée that added more depth to the flavors. The Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio 🐟, paired with their homemade XO sauce, was incredibly flavorful, with sweet and tender scallions and refreshing pomelo. The San Francisco Sole for 2 was outstanding. The grilled flounder was cooked to perfection with a generous amount of brown butter, making the dish aromatic and flavorful. The fish was juicy and tender, while the potatoes were crispy and soft. #NYCFood #NewYork #Taverns #HiddenGems #NYCFoodGuide #NYCLife #NYCExploration
