New York Dining | First Visit to Nakaji—A Big Surprise!

❤️I couldn’t wait to give Nakaji a glowing review. The entire experience was way beyond my expectations! I had seen mixed reviews online, mostly criticizing the chef’s service attitude. To be honest, I was quite anxious before going, fearing that I might experience discriminatory treatment. But it turned out to be a completely pleasant and relaxed experience. The chef even cracked a few jokes along the way. The abalone and conch were amazing. We rarely get to taste such thick and large pieces of abalone with beautiful textures. It was truly delightful! The third part was all about sea urchin. The combination of sea urchin and salmon roe is a classic in high-end omakase. The sea urchin was incredibly smooth, melting in the mouth, complemented by the burst of flavor from the salmon roe. I was in bliss! Next came a piece of sushi almost overflowing with sea urchin. There were at least 6-7 pieces, a true feast for sea urchin lovers! Who wouldn’t love this “sea ice cream”? The tuna was a perfect balance of the fatty belly and the fresh middle belly, tender yet chewy. By this point, we were nearing the end. The final dish was a tuna hand roll. Personally, I’m not a big fan of green onions, and I felt they slightly affected the texture. The dessert was the signature tamagoyaki and melon. The tamagoyaki was a bit better at Yoshino, in my humble opinion. 🌟 Ambiance: A chef counter with about ten seats, warmly lit in a yellowish tone. Their overhead lights were perfectly positioned directly above the food, making the sushi look great in photos. The only downside was that the table seemed a bit higher than in other places, so you couldn’t see the chef’s entire sushi-making process, like fish handling and techniques.
