✨Impressive Works to Share 1️⃣ In 2002, Burtynsky first visited China and was drawn to its large-scale infrastructure projects. At the time, the world's most ambitious project was China's Three Gorges Dam. 🌸🍃 This massive hydroelectric project led to the displacement of approximately 1.4 million people from their ancestral homes. Beyond documenting the dam's construction, this experience made the photographer realize that China was undergoing unprecedented economic and industrial transformation. 🌸🍃He then shifted his focus to China's coal and steel industries, manufacturing, and recycling sectors. 2️⃣ In 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker had a significant spill in Alaska's Prince William Sound, leaking 11 million gallons of crude oil and contaminating 1,300 miles of coastline. The spill had a devastating impact on wildlife and ecosystems. After the accident, these ships were often uninsurable and were decommissioned. 🌸🍃Many were towed to countries like Bangladesh, where they were dismantled and recycled by workers on the beach. The massive hulls reveal the costs behind modernization: the environment bears the scars, and marginalized laborers face the consequences. #NewYork 🌃🌟
