New York Exploration | The Ordinary Hakata Tonton 🐽
For a while, everyone was raving about this place, and the dishes looked decent with reasonable prices, so I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t particularly interested in the hot pot but was really looking forward to their small-plate offerings. Since the portions are small, my friend and I ordered nine dishes, but we ended up feeling a bit disappointed. Maybe it was just that the prices seemed too good to be true, or maybe I had my expectations set too high… Foie Gras Inari 🦆 (Worth a Try) As a foie gras lover, I had high hopes, but it was pretty average. The foie gras wasn’t rich in flavor, and the tofu skin’s texture was nothing special. Goma Hamachi 🐟 (Worth a Try) The baby yellowtail was neither fresh nor fishy, but the sesame sauce saved it a bit. The texture was just okay. Citrus Salmon 🍣 (Worth a Try) The dish looked nice with the addition of salmon roe, but it was still unremarkable. It wasn’t fresh or fishy, and it just didn’t leave a lasting impression. Uni Scallop 🐚 (Skip This One) ✖️ The uni had a cheap, cloth-like taste. Has anyone else experienced this? For me, it brought back unpleasant memories and made me feel nauseous. The scallop wasn’t fresh either. #NewYork 🌃
