New York KENKAšŸ® A Retro Showa-Style Japanese Izakaya šŸŽ

KENKA, a Showa-themed Japanese izakaya in the East Village of New York, has always had mixed reviews online. Despite the ups and downs, it’s still packed with customers every day. If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d say give it a shot and make your own judgment! 🤪 The place opens at 5 p.m. every evening and doesn’t take reservations, so if you want to eat here, remember to come early to sign up and get a number. šŸƒ Most of the negative reviews complain about the rude staff and the noisy environment. But that’s kind of the charm of this place. They’ve never seemed interested in changing, and their attitude—let’s call it ā€œassertiveā€ā€”fits perfectly with the overall vibe. 🤣 I used to love coming here with friends after class for some yakitori and beer, just chatting about everything and nothing. The place is also filled with office workers letting off steam, and the atmosphere is lively, to say the least. There are Showa-style posters, decorations, and wall paintings, plus some vintage arcade games collected by the owner. The whole place has a very distinct vibe. šŸŽ® šŸ” The food used to be really affordable, but it has gotten more expensive over time. šŸ˜… Still, every time I visit, I can’t resist their okonomiyaki, grilled fish, and all sorts of skewered and fried dishes, washed down with a few beers and sake. šŸ» šŸ“ 25 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003 #NewYork #JapaneseIzakaya #NewYorkCuisine šŸŒ†
