New York Public Library
πΏπThe New York Public Library is the largest municipal public library system in the United States, founded in 1895. With its neoclassical architectural style, rich collection of ancient books, and free service philosophy, it has become a cultural landmark of New York. π’π The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, the main branch of the library, was completed in 1911. It took nine years to build and cost $9 million. The building features Italian and French imported marble. The iconic stone lions in front of the building are named "Patience" and "Fortitude." The Rose Reading Room is one of the largest column-free spaces in the world, measuring 90.5 meters in length and 15.8 meters in height. It is equipped with vintage bronze lamps and open bookshelves. ππ As of 1992, the main library housed 16.47 million items, including 4.1 million books, 20,000 periodicals, and a large number of manuscripts and maps. The branch libraries hold over 3 million books. The New York Public Library is a place that I visit almost every day. Today, I took some time to visit the interior of the library. π’πThe architecture of the library is truly magnificent, especially the several reading rooms on the third floor, which are very distinctive. The Rose Reading Room is particularly impressive. The spacious hall, rows of desks equipped with research devices, and tall bookshelves on both sides create an atmosphere of serious study. ππ Many people are busy with their own research. I pretended to read for a while before leaving to meet up with my friend. #NewYork #LibraryAdventures ππ
