North America’s First Michelin-Starred Chinese Restaurant|Wing Lei 🥢
Wing Lei in Las Vegas holds the title of the first Chinese restaurant in North America to earn a Michelin star. I visited recently — overall, the flavors and service were good, though not exactly “mind-blowing.” No major disappointments, but prices are steep and value feels just average. This time, we opted for à la carte instead of the tasting menu — partly because the tasting seemed like luxurious ingredients piled onto traditional dishes without much innovation, and partly because we’re fairly familiar with Cantonese cuisine and felt confident ordering ourselves. We tried: 🐔 Abalone & Chicken Claypot 🍚 Portuguese-Style Baked Seafood Rice 🍲 Braised Tofu 🫓 Steamed Minced Pork Patty with Sea Cucumber Honestly, every dish tasted fine — around the level of a solid Cantonese restaurant in China. But prices are noticeably higher and portions are on the smaller side. The saving grace was the excellent service — complimentary petits fours before and after the meal, plus a cake to take home when leaving. That definitely boosted the overall experience. Final take: If you’re in Vegas craving decent Cantonese food with Michelin-level service, Wing Lei is worth a try. But if you’re looking for great value, this might not be your best pick. #FoodDiary #Michelin1Star #Michelin #Foodie #PrettyFood #ChineseCuisine #LasVegas
