NYC’s Free Outdoor Public Pools Reopen This Weekend—These Are the Best Ones to Hit First

At long last, **New York City’s free outdoor public pools are open for the season**, kicking off the [summer](https://secretnyc.co/things-to-do-in-nyc-summer-2025/) 2025 season! New Yorkers can finally rejoice and take a dip and cool off in the city’s pools for the next couple of months. All of the city’s pools are **fully lifeguarded** and will remain open **FOR FREE** throughout the coming months. We’ve put together **everything you need to know about hitting the pools this weekend**, including **the best pools you should prioritize for opening weekend**. [Gottesman Pool in Central Park](https://secretnyc.co/davis-center-pool-gottesman-pool-central-park/) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Central Park’s only swimming pool is set to debut this Friday**, as a part of the [$160 million Davis Center glow-up](https://secretnyc.co/davis-center-at-the-harlem-meer/) that took place over the past five years. The newly built **Gottesman Pool** near the famous Harlem Meer is a whopping **285-foot-long, oval-shaped pool right in the heart of the park**. It’s set to **hold over 1,000 swimmers at a time**, and has a **sparkling new pool deck, locker rooms, and picnic seating**. It’s slotted in between the Robert F. Kennedy and Hell Gate Bridges, and has incredible views of the them and the Upper East Side. Plus, the pool itself has Olympic-size lanes, lifeguards, and a lovely Art-Deco look after a $19 million renovation a couple years ago. It complements the park’s other amenities beautifully (full running track, basketball courts, BBQing area, and more), making it the perfect place to have an all-day affair. An **Olympic sized lap pool is juxtaposed with a wading pool for younger swimmers**, making it a great swimming spot for all ages.
