NYC|Caramel Banana & Ube Ice Cream 🍌🍨 Indonesian-French Fusion

Wayan is an Indonesian restaurant in Nolita opened by Cédric Vongerichten (son of Jean-Georges), blending Southeast Asian flavors with French flair. 🍢 Satays – Sweet-savory skewers with three meat options—tender, well-charred, and flavorful. 🐙 Crispy Baby Squid – Decent, though the tips were a bit burnt, reducing the edible portion. 🌽 Corn Fritters – Fried corn bites—interesting but greasy after a few. 🦞 Lobster Noodles – Covered in cilantro and heavy on black pepper, masking the seafood. Tasted like upscale instant noodles (think Indomie)—not bad, but not special. 🍌 Banana Sundae – The star! Caramelized banana, dense banana cake, and creamy ube ice cream—rich, sweet, and beautifully balanced. The chef loves white spherical bowls—cute, but you have to peek inside to see how much is left! The menu descriptions sounded amazing, but execution felt a bit flat. Portions are modest—we left still a little hungry. The black exterior is easy to miss, but the interior is stylish and exotic. As Cédric’s first NYC venture, Wayan shows promise but has room to grow. Would love to hear other Indonesian restaurant recommendations! 🙋 #NYC #IndonesianFood #FusionCuisine #Nolita #NYCEats #UbeIceCream #NYCRestaurants #FoodieReview #HiddenGems #DessertLovers
