NYC Lysee | Overpriced, underwhelming, overhyped “must-visit” 🌪️
After Eunji Lee walked out of two-star Jungsik in 2022, she opened her own dessert lab—and suddenly Lysee was splashed across every feed and glossy mag. 🌟📸 I snagged the signature set while in town for the NYC Marathon; here’s the no-filter rundown: 👉 Flavor: Classic French vibes, just “okay” but turbo-sweet and heavy—zero wow-factor. 🤷♂️ The hype balloon is way bigger than the actual cake. Save the Uber fare. 👉 Vibe: basically a bougie bubble-tea shop. You can even dash upstairs for grab-and-go boxes like you’re ordering mango green tea with boba. 🧋 👉 Service: sweet as heck 🌺—no complaints. 👉 Price: ouch 🌵. Plenty of cheaper spots sling pastries that punch just as high. Star of the show: Corn 🌽 Mousse Cake Top deck = corn-infused cream; core = corn mousse + buttery French sable. Flavor is a shy whisper of corn, crunch is cute, but halfway through the sugar fog rolls in and you’re done 😂. Namesake Lysee Cake Walnut sable base wearing a coat of Korean brown-rice cream, drizzled with caramel & nougat shards. By this point I was scooping just to be polite—another creamy-crunchy twin of the corn guy. 🌿🥱 TL;DR: pretty pastries, hefty price tag, taste stuck in “meh” traffic. #NYC
