NYC Sichuan & Hunan Cuisine 🌶️|A Taste of Home in Every Bite! 🤤

Recently visited Chef Tan in NYC’s East Village (📍 37 St Marks Pl), highly recommended by friends from NJ for its authentic Sichuan and Hunan flavors. Craving something spicy and satisfying, I grabbed a friend to check it out—and we may have overordered 😅 Here’s what we tried: 🍆 Smashed Eggplant with Green Pepper & Century Egg Served in a traditional mortar—looked just like the real deal back home! The peppers weren’t spicy but very aromatic, mixed with garlic and sesame oil. Light yet flavorful—a delicious start. 🐮 Couple’s Beef Slices (Fuqi Feipian) A Sichuan classic, and the portion was huge! Tender beef shank and tripe soaked in spicy chili oil—authentic and satisfying. We even had to take half home! 🥕 Stir-Fried Tripe with Pickled Radish ⭐ Must-order! The biggest surprise! The radish was perfectly tangy and crunchy, pairing wonderfully with soft, chewy tripe. A true rice companion—highly recommended for sour-and-spicy lovers! 🌶️ Stir-Fried Diced Chicken with Bird’s Eye Chili Classic Sichuan diced chicken—tender, spicy, and loaded with flavor. Super satisfying with steamed rice. 🐟 Sauerkraut Fish (Fresh Fish) Served with flair! The fish was tender, accompanied by enoki mushrooms, pickled mustard greens, and glass noodles. The broth was tangy and spicy but not oily—we kept sipping it even after the fish was gone. 🍬 Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cakes The brown sugar was stuffed inside the rice cakes—different from the usual drizzle, but still soft, chewy, and lightly sweet. A nice way to end the meal. Overall: Chef Tan didn’t disappoint! The pickled radish tripe and sauerkraut fish were standouts—true comfort food that brings you right back to China. Portions are generous (we over-ordered for two—3–4 dishes would be enough). Definitely a solid choice when you’re craving bold, homestyle Sichuan-Hunan flavors! #FoodieLife #Foodie #NYCExploration #NYC #NYCFood #NYCChineseFood #SichuanCuisine #NYCWeekend #HunanFood #SpicyFood #NYCEats #ComfortFood #ChefTan #EastVillageEats
