Omaha | In the Footsteps of Buffett & the Slow-Paced Midwest Life
🏡 Buffett-Themed Stops ▫️ 3555 Farnam Street – Buffett’s former home 🏠. A modest, unassuming house that reflects his down-to-earth lifestyle. ▫️ Blackstone Plaza – The headquarters of Berkshire Hathaway 📊🏢. ▫️ CHI Health Center – Where the legendary Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting takes place 🎤📈. 🏰 Iconic Landmarks ▫️ Joslyn Castle & Gardens 🏰🌷 – Once home to George and Sarah Joslyn, among Omaha’s earliest millionaires and philanthropists. This stunning century-old castle and garden represent the grandeur of entrepreneurs who moved to the Midwest after the completion of the transcontinental railroad. Guided tours are available for history enthusiasts! ▫️ Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge 🌉 – A scenic walkway connecting Nebraska and Iowa, perfect for photos and sunset views. 🎨 Cultural Experiences ▫️ Joslyn Art Museum 🖼️ – Founded by Sarah Joslyn in memory of her husband George, this museum features a blend of American and European art from the 19th-20th centuries, along with modern pieces. While it includes some Asian artifacts, note that some descriptions may lack accuracy. ▫️ Union Pacific Railroad Museum 🚂📚 – Housed in a three-story building, exhibits on floors 2 and 3 showcase the history of railroads in the Midwest through displays and interactive exhibits. Learn how trains shaped industry, daily life, and even played roles in wars. ▫️ Old Market 🛍️🌿 – A charming area filled with vintage shops, tropical plant corridors 🌴, and handmade Midwestern souvenirs. 🍽️ Dining Highlights ▫️ Gorat’s 🥩 – Tried Buffett’s favorite 22oz T-bone steak. It was decent, but the hash browns stood out! ▫️ Reuben Sandwich 🥪 – Originated in Omaha! Tried it at Jackson Street Tavern: rye bread + corned beef + Swiss cheese + sauerkraut. Light and flavorful. We skipped the zoo and aquarium due to early April’s chilly weather 🥶❄️, but it’s definitely on the list for a warmer visit! Overall, Omaha is a tranquil town perfect for a 1-2 day road trip 🚙💨. With convenient street parking ($1/hour) and a relaxed vibe, it offers a genuine taste of Midwest living—reminiscent of my college town days. #Omaha #Nebraska #Midwest #Railroad #Buffett #TravelUSA #SlowLiving
