One Day in São Paulo
Before arriving, I thought social media might have exaggerated the safety concerns here — but it turns out they were pretty accurate. After landing at São Paulo Airport, I stored my luggage at Terminal 3’s arrival level and crossed the street to begin my day. Attractions: 🕹️ São Paulo Cathedral: Lived up to its reputation — the square in front was filled with unhoused individuals, drug users, and addicts. Unlike the relatively non-aggressive unhoused populations in the U.S., these folks stared intensely. I only dared to take photos near police officers. The cathedral itself was magnificent, but the contrast between the devout prayers inside and the chaos outside was striking. 🕹️ Batman Alley (Beco do Batman): Famous for its graffiti walls (named after a Batman-themed mural). This area felt relatively safe. I wandered around taking photos — plenty of Instagram-worthy murals! 🕹️ Paulista Avenue: Since the observation deck was closed on Monday, I just drove around. It felt like New York’s Fifth Avenue — bustling and modern. I also spotted the 1000th McDonald’s from the car. 🕹️ Ibirapuera Park: Reminded me of Central Park — full of joggers and picnickers. The Monument to the Bandeiras (Pioneers’ Statue) was visible too. #São Paulo Cathedral#São Paulo#Ibirapuera Park#Av. Paulista#Beco do Batman#travel guide#trip diary#Brazil#TravelDiary
