This exhibition will showcase numerous classic works by Utagawa Kuniyoshi featuring cats, including "Fifty-Three Cats Feeding," which depicts 53 cats in various poses within a single painting, the "Cat Katakanas" series that forms Japanese syllabary characters representing fish using cats, and anthropomorphic cat works such as "Moonlit Cat's Manuscript" and "Popular Cat Acrobatics." π±π¨ πΈπ Chapter 2 explores the daily interactions between people and cats during the Edo period. Chapter 3 introduces Edo-era legends, stories, and Kabuki plays featuring cats as protagonists. Through related ukiyo-e paintings, viewers can see a handsome old cat teaching martial arts secrets and encounter eerie cat spirits.
