🏛️ The Tomb of Napoleon is located at Les Invalides on the south bank of the Seine in Paris. Built in 1670, Les Invalides was originally a hospital and retirement home for war veterans. The grand entrance leads to the dome-shaped Saint-Louis Chapel, a solemn and majestic space that now serves as the final resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte, one of France’s most legendary emperors. 🕯️ The tomb is split into two levels. The upper level features six circular alcoves, each housing the urns of Napoleon’s family and generals—including his two brothers (Joseph and Jérôme), his son (Napoleon II, the "King of Rome"), and four of his most trusted marshals. ⚜️ The lower level is an 8-meter-deep circular crypt made of marble, where Napoleon’s sarcophagus rests at the center. The walls are adorned with 12 bas-reliefs of Victory, each representing one of Napoleon’s greatest military triumphs. A statue of Napoleon, dressed in his coronation robes, stands in eternal watch over his tomb. 🪦 Napoleon’s sarcophagus is a massive red porphyry tomb placed on a bluish-gray marble base. Inside, there are six nested coffins: from the innermost outward, they are made of tin, mahogany, two layers of lead, ebony, and oak. Napoleon’s remains lie within the innermost coffin.
