People who've been to Colombia🇨🇴 are really tight-lipped(1)

One Netflix show just ruined the whole country's reputation. It's so unfair! Colombia is such an amazing place, but people never mention it. 😔 Day 8️⃣ of my Latin America trip: From Cancun to Medellin (Spanish fun fact: In Colombia🇨🇴, the double "L" is pronounced like a "J," so Medellin is pronounced "Me-djean.") Colombia was the most uncertain stop on this Latin America trip. When friends heard I was going to Medellin, they all thought I was on a one-way trip to never-never land. I got treated to so many farewell meals! 😂 A Brief History of Violence Medellin was the most dangerous city in the world during the 1980s and 1990s (no exaggeration!). It's located in a mountainous area to the northwest, where the government had a hard time reaching. (It feels like something out of Gabriel García Márquez's Macondo, doesn't it?) It's only a 5-hour drive to the Caribbean Sea and another 2 hours to the Panama border. Drugs could be smuggled through Central America and across Mexico, or shipped by sea, to reach consumers in the United States. #Colombia #South America
