Pittsburgh Road Trip (2) — Fallingwater: A Must-See Architectural Gem

Just under an hour’s drive from Pittsburgh lies the world-famous Fallingwater — a masterpiece you don’t want to miss! 🏠 Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it’s one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die". Built in 1935, it remains strikingly elegant and timeless even by today’s standards. 🏠 Originally commissioned by the Kaufmann family (owners of a major Pittsburgh department store), the home was designed to blend seamlessly with nature — a vision Wright brought to life beautifully. 🏠 The exterior is built with stone and concrete — innovative materials for its time. Inside, the furniture reflects a refined Japanese influence. And yes — the Kaufmanns were incredibly wealthy 🤑: think original Picasso paintings 🖼️ and Song Dynasty sculptures on the walls… truly a humbling experience for us mere mortals! 🏠 Tour Experience: Guided tours are available — our guide was knowledgeable and super friendly 👏. We actually arrived late (already past closing!), but the staff was incredibly kind and still let us in. No scolding, just great service! 💯 🏠 Tickets: Book in advance online! 🎟️ We chose the basic tour (~$34 per person). Slots are every 30 mins with around 14 people per group. We booked a month ahead — plenty of availability at that time. 🏠 Verdict: Totally worth the trip! ✨ You’ll leave understanding exactly why this place is so iconic. Highly recommended whether you’re based in Pittsburgh or road-tripping through PA! 🚗💨 #Fallingwater #Pittsburgh #RoadTrip #Pennsylvania #ExplorePA #Architecture #FrankLloydWright #MuseumWorthy #ScenicSpots #HiddenGems #TravelInspo 🏛️🍃
