Pokhara's Mystical Caves!-- Mahendra Cave
✨ Imagine discovering a massive limestone cave right in the city. ✨ Mahendra Cave Located near Pokhara city, it is a rare stalactite and stalagmite cave in Nepal, stretching 200 meters long and 660 feet high, with a dark and slippery interior. ✨ Inside the cave, there is a statue of the Hindu god Shiva. The ancient stone sculpture, featuring a five-headed serpent, looks very old and mysterious, giving off a vibe of primal totems. ✨ This cave was discovered in the 1950s by a shepherd from Pokhara. Its old name was "Adhero Bhawan," which literally means "habitat of darkness." ✨ The cave was named after the late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev (the ruler at the time), who visited the place immediately after reading about it in a Newari newspaper. The cave was officially inaugurated by King Mahendra and subsequently named after him. There is also a small waterfall nearby, Devi's Fall Pokhara, just across the way, which contains a deep underground cave system that seems to be connected to Pokhara's groundwater network. ❤️ It feels like Pokhara might be perfect for caving adventures in addition to trekking and paragliding. I met a British teacher on the road who came here specifically for caving but noted that a very professional guide is needed. ⚠️ Admission: 100 rupees #Pokhara #NepalPokharaFewaLake #Nepal #Caving #CaveExploration #Caves #OffTheBeatenPath #PokharaTravel#trip diary#travel guide#Mahendra Cave
