Port Elizabeth | The Final Stop on the Garden Route
Port Elizabeth, South Africa’s fourth-largest city, boasts coastal docks and harbors. Nearby lies Addo Elephant National Park, but the city itself doesn’t have many attractions. It mainly serves as the final stop on the Garden Route and a transfer point to Johannesburg, the capital. 💖 Things to Do: ✅ Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum A free 🆓 art gallery featuring mostly works by local Port Elizabeth artists. The collection isn’t large, but it covers diverse styles—worth a quick visit if you’re passing by. Note that the surrounding area is a bit rough, so stay safe! ✅ Addo Elephant National Park Best explored by self-driving, it’s 43 km from the city center. Solo travelers can only visit with a tour group, but the 性价比 seems average. 🚌 Transportation: Plettenberg Bay to PE I bought a bus ticket online. On the day I traveled, only Intercape had a afternoon through bus. The pickup was at the Shell gas station on the N2 highway in Plettenberg Bay, 1.5 km from the town. The ticket cost 350 rand/¥140. The ticket stated a 16:30 departure, but the bus actually arrived at 17:30. The journey took 4 hours, and we reached the Intercape waiting room at 336 Cape Rd, PE, at 21:30. It’s 7 km to the city center by taxi, costing 70 rand/¥28—just use Uber. 🏡 Accommodation: 18 on Sherlock A double room costs 450 rand/¥180. The room is spacious with an en-suite bathroom, a TV, and a small fridge. It’s newly renovated with brand-new facilities. It’s a 500-meter walk from the restaurant area, located on a hilltop with a view of the harbor, and the surrounding area is relatively safe. 🥘 Food & Drinks: 📍 Groundfloor Café A café with an outdoor area. A large cappuccino costs 38 rand/¥15, and a banana caramel South African pancake is also 38 rand—perfect for a quick stop. 📍 Izakaya Arata Specializes in ramen and sushi. I tried the pork neck ramen for 116 rand/¥46. The taste isn’t very authentic—the noodles are thick and soft, and the pork isn’t tender enough—but it’s good for satisfying a craving. #AfricaTravel #SouthAfrica #PortElizabethTravel
