Quebec's Not-to-Miss Ecological Experience in the Small Town of Matane
Here comes a highly recommended place I’ve personally tried and tested—remember to save it with a ⭐️! Matane has a long history dating back to 1542. The name "Matane" comes from the local Micmac language, meaning "beaver pond."🍉🍉 🏡🏡Home to a port and abundant seafood resources, it’s a charming town worth exploring. Matane is famous for its stunning natural landscapes, including beautiful beaches, clear waters, lush forests, and mountains.🏔️🏔️ You can go hiking or take a sightseeing train to immerse yourself in nature.🌻 👣The town has a SAUMONS (salmon) observation center. With luck, you can watch the entire process of salmon swimming through the center’s diversion system to spawn and migrate. (We didn’t see any salmon on our first visit, but tried again the next morning—within 5 minutes of arriving, a roughly 30cm salmon swam by!) It’s a fantastic eco-tourism spot and educational place to experience nature. 🍣🍣 Besides the salmon center, there are other attractions to visit—I covered them in previous notes, so I won’t elaborate here!🏛️🏛️ Today, let’s focus on these lovely restaurants and accommodations:🎉🎉 Restaurant Le Matelot – Dinner If you’re a seafood lover, don’t miss this "lobster club." Located near the river, booking a window seat will make your meal even more enjoyable. Window seats are usually for 2 people; we had a larger group, so we sat inside.🙊🙊 🎊🎊The seafood is super fresh, portions are generous, and prices are reasonable. Hotel-Motel Belle Plage & Its Restaurant 🍟🍔 The hotel rooms are clean and tidy, though sound insulation isn’t great. Opening the back door of your room reveals a vast sea view, and you can have a bonfire by the beach at night. 🚘 Rooms 250-259 are the best—on the first floor, with direct access to the beach right outside the door. Notably, the hotel’s restaurant has full panoramic windows, where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets during dinner. The plating is impeccable, and the food tastes great.👍👍👍 For dessert after your main course, try their mini cake buffet—you can eat until you can’t anymore! In the photos, I ordered their signature after-dinner drink and chocolate. 😣😣 (The drink had a bit of a kick, so I gave it to my family and didn’t try it.)🍔🍔 Due to word limits, I’ll introduce a hidden restaurant in the forest in my next post.
