Report! This weekend is perfect for leaf-peeping in Upstate New York!

Last weekend (10/12), we visited Manitou and Cold Spring. The leaves were already 20%-30% golden! 🌟 A blanket of gold was draped over the lush green summer branches, with passionate crimson reds dotted throughout. As the towns began putting up their Halloween decorations, the autumn breeze in the mountains sneakily dipped its fingers into orange paint and brushed it across the grand tree in front of the Cold Spring library. Sweetheart, it’s pumpkin spice season! 🎃💕 We didn’t originally plan this as a leaf-peeping trip—our main goal was to visit the private home of American modern designers Mary & Russel Wright. But precisely because we weren’t desperately chasing fall, we ended up holding summer’s hand and bumping right into autumn’s warm embrace. 🤝🍁 🤸🏻‍♂️🚶‍♀️🍂 So, what other fun autumn activities can you enjoy without hiking a trail? Here are some cozy and delightful ideas! 👇 1️⃣ Visit a museum or historic house nestled in the mountains! I highly recommend the Manitouga house in Manitou and the Italian modern art museum Magazzino in Cold Spring (I’ll try to write about it this week!). If you have a car, you can easily visit both in one relaxed day. 🚗💨 2️⃣ Take the sweet green vintage trolley running between Cold Spring and Manitou! The fare is just $2 (cash, and they give change). It runs once every hour. This adorable trolley starts at Manitouga and ends on Main St in Cold Spring. With its retro style, delicate scroll patterns on the windows, and park-bench-style seating, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time (see Figures 7 & 8). The driver was super kind—she pointed out castles and pink-leafed trees along the route, and even paused in front of the library so we could snap some photos! 🚌📸💖 3️⃣ Sip a Pumpkin Spice latte in Cold Spring! The Pumpkin Spice at Cozy Corner Cafe, an Argentine restaurant, might just be the best I’ve ever tasted (see Figure 9)! 😍 However, I wouldn’t strongly recommend their food—though the beef Argentinian Empanadas were pretty decent. 📍 131 Main St, Cold Spring, NY 10516 I hope you have an amazing time!
