Resto Gare - Winnipeg's Charming Train-Themed Restaurant

After hearing so much about this place, I finally tried it! (Sorry, no photos - we were sharing the table with strangers, so I felt awkward snapping pics. These images are from their Facebook.) Here's my honest take: 🍽️ Appetizers 🐌 Escargot (Snails) Shell-less, but tender and flavorful - quite nice! 🦑 Calamari Mediocre - uneven seasoning (some bites too salty, others bland) 🍄 Champignons (Sautéed Mushrooms) Served on bread (which I skipped since the escargot also came with bread) Mushrooms were... just mushrooms. Nothing special. 🐚 Coquilles Saint-Jacques (Scallops) Winner! Scallops with mushrooms, bacon bits, and cheese - like a reduced creamy seafood stew. Yum! 🥣 Soup 🧅 Classic French Onion Soup Too salty, dark-looking, and unappealing. Didn’t finish it. 🍴 Main Course 🐟 Pan-Seared Whitefish (Daily Special) Served with turnip purée, asparagus, and potatoes - well-cooked and tasty! Safe choice for first-timers (seafood rarely disappoints). Huge portion - couldn’t finish it! 🍮 Desserts 🍮 Crème Brûlée Solid choice - creamy with a crisp caramel top. 🍫 Chocolate Cake Very sweet, but the soft texture saved it. 📍 Final Thoughts "Decent, but not mind-blowing. Aside from the salty onion soup, everything else was... fine. Would I rush back? Probably not, but it’s a fun experience!" 📌 Resto Gare 🚂 Train-themed ambiance (cool for a one-time visit!) #WinnipegEats #FrenchCuisine #FoodieReview #WinnipegLife #NotBadNotGreat #DateNightSpot
