Road Trip in Upstate | A Tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Architecture
One of the most anticipated experiences in Buffalo city was visiting the Martin House 🏛️✨. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for business executive Darwin D. Martin and built between 1903 and 1905, this residence stands as one of Wright’s most significant early works. The complex consists of multiple structures connected by long, elegant corridors. Clever angled entrances and carefully positioned bedrooms preserve the homeowner's privacy, while the kitchen and office have separate access points to avoid disturbing the family’s daily life. Wright described the property as a “domestic symphony”—the architecture is low, horizontal, and open. Walking through the hallways, you can catch the soothing scent of plants from the garden—truly a healing experience 🌿💖. We booked the two-hour guided tour, which also includes access to the Barton House and the Gardener’s Cottage, both designed by Wright. Our guide shared incredibly detailed stories—from the initial design philosophy to ongoing preservation efforts. Highly recommended! 👏🎧 Just a 5-minute drive from the Martin House, you’ll find Lake Effect Ice Cream 🍦😍. Don’t miss their popular London Fog flavor with its delicate tea aroma, or the rich Black Sesame—so flavorful you’ll feel like your hair is getting stronger with every spoonful (^ν^)!
